Sodium benzoate is a cosmetic preservative, effective against most fungi, yeasts and bacteria. Sold in powder, it is soluble in water and has a 99% richness. Sodium benzoate in cosmetics is used as a preservative in products with a pH below 5 and it is recommended to use it with other antimicrobial agents. The preservative sodium benzoate can be used as an ingredient in the formulation of lotions, creams, deodorants, hair products. The recommended dose varies between 0.3 and 3%.
